Last weeks winner, struck gold again this week by being the only player to get the answer to the Minute of First Arsenal Goal question spot on. But plenty of you were close, getting most of the points.
With the league table so tight so far it looks like those extra few points for being that little bit closer will come in really handy in the final scores.
Bella (the the current leader for this week) also came close going for the 30th minute. Despite all my stats about Arsenal possible scoring later than you might expect, only 4 of you had a time later than the 30th minute.
It's a new monthly league table kicking off this week, so if you wanna get involved make sure you don't miss the first week of the month.
I've created the questios this week so that there's a possibility of some really high scores for some of you. As proved by Bugna and Marky365 last week (see the weekly mail), failing to get at least one big score of 700+ under your belt can be really damaging come the end of the month.
You'll all be devastated to see that Bugna now leads both tales by a narrow margin.
In terms of the Monthly tables, how this normally works (when there isn't an error in the system), is that your first 3 scores of the month would be added together, to make up your total monthly score.
Then, after in the 4th game of the month your worst score of the month will be dropped and your final score will be made up of your best 3 scores for that month. If you only managed to turn up for 3 games, you'll still be on a fairly level playing field but obviously won't have the luxury of dropping your dodgiest score.
If you have any questions on this please feel free to make posts or ask, we're always happy to explain, and fix things when there have been gremlins in the system.
I was told last week by Brussel and Jedi that some of you had correctly picked Carlton Cole to be the big scorer, and got no points for it. This error was corrected this morning, and as nearly 30% of you had Cole down, the look of the table for last week has changed significantly including the winner!!
SuperSpud was replaced at the top by the man with the most PLP weekly wins so far....Batley! Below is a list of players who climbed due to the correction.
Most the bookies have Porto as the favourites to win the first leg. Porto have a strong defence, and Arsenal have no strikers, so thats what the bookies are going with, but most of you disagree:
Arsenal to Win 45.16% Draw 35.48% Porto to Win 6 19.35%
Only 19% backing Porto, but remember you can still change your predictions up until kick off.
A friendly note to the handful of people who think they've been really clever and picked Reading v West Brom as their upset for Q1. I'm sure people as clever as you don't need me to tell you that neither team plays in a lower league than the other (Ok so West Brom are top, and Reading are toying with relegation, but it hasn't happened yet)....
PICKING THIS TIE WILL RESULT IN AN INCORRECT ANSWER no matter who wins or if it's a draw.
I won't name and shame any of you except for one....
shame on you THESTIRKS, the man who contributed, wrote and provided the selection of answers for that question (along with 5 of the other questions this week).
That answer was obviously put in by "accident" so please take this chance to change your answers.
HAHAHAHAHA! Dreadful manager, skint American owners, can't get a new ground, Knocked out of the FA Cup by Reading, 7th in the league, Ryan Babel as a whole, and now Torres, Gerrard AND Benayoun out for weeks each. Good times!
I voted for more skill than luck on last weeks questions but have now changed my mind. I considered my answers for longer than any other week and used, if I do say so myself, a lot of skill. Unfortunately it seems I had no luck at all.
Jedi pipped bugna to the post in the closest race yet.
With Bugna a comfortable 100 points ahead going in to the final game it looked like he'd clinched it with his nearest rival 2Kids having a shocker. But his boys Villa let him down, cost him points and allowed Jedi to make the mother of all come backs and sneak the win by just 5 little points. On the last day of action.
It's a bumper week this week, which means a whole load of ya should be back in the running to win Decembers monthly prize and be crowned the last champ of 2009.
He played with grace and genius, bewitching opponents with his mercurial abilities for years, however, how on God's earth does that qualify this un-intelligable, scary faced, disturbingly unaware monstrosity to appear on the box? especially when kids are watching.
Creative Ti has been trashing Gaj in all the Sunday papers. He thinks Gaj is in awe of his footballing knwoledge, and would like to remind the Liverpool fan that he is yet to finish above him in any week. According to Ti, Gaj's absence last week was down to a bouth sh1tting bricks at the sight of Ti's awesome skills.
Big words have been said bt Ti, but so far the Gaj management are yet to respond.
After nearly a dozen weeks of mediocracy and poor performances, one regular player seems to have come alive. His last 4 games played have resulted in 3 wins, and he's now chasing a Batley's record of 3 concsecutive wins, and I'm hoping mentining that will jinx him beyond repair!
Mean while the current record holder Batley, is doing a Leeds United. From hero to almost zero in double quick time. Couple of bas beats for Batley but past glories are good enough to Keep him in 6th in the season leaderboards.
Couple of interesting stats on the predictions so far.
Only 21% of you are backing Man City to get at least a point v Chelsea, but 47% are backing Blackburn for at least a point v Liverpool.
Might be nothing to it, but to me it says that most people think it's a very sad state of affairs for the Reds if Liverpool have less of a chance of beating Rovers than Man City have of getting just a point at Man City.
And that Chelsea are almost completely unstoppable. 17 Goals in the last 5 with zero conceded might be testament to that, but early next year they lose Drogba, Essien, Kalou and Mikel, all regular Chelsea first teamers, for up to around 6 weeks to the African Nations Cup. So there's hope for the rest yet!
2) Crouch - Because when he starts he scores and that what a striker should do, and his goals to games ratio for England is currently one of the best of all time,
3) Owen - still the 2nd best striker England have
4) Agbonlahor (because there' no genuine pace to get in behind in the first 3).
No strength in that lot, so Carlton could would probably also have to go. But if a team wants to in the world cup there's no room for a non-goal scoring striker, so no room for Heskey. It just doesn't cut it at that standard, if you play up front you HAVE to score goals.
Defoe has been on great form this season for club and country, but if you take away the goals he's scored for England in the last 6 months his record before that was 5 in 32 appearances. Ok mostly on as sub, but that record just isn't good enough for a team with world cup ambitions if you ask me.
Some people have told me that because the site is called premier league pedicitions, they were surprised that it runs for International weeks, well it does!! so please don't forget to enter next week for England v Brazil and the European Qualifiers.
A couple of you have reported getting this error message after making your entry. This is something that happens rarely, and that we can fix easily. So if you see this message after making your entry, fear not, your entry is safely stored in the system, and all you have to do is drop a quick line to support@premierleaguepredictions.com, and we'll get your icon added the the current players list.
So finally after 34 games against the top four Wigan finally win a game not because they where lucky but because they outplayed a poor Chelski.
Even though before this game Chelski where unbeaten they have been lucky with a few of the games against poorer opposition and that is not good enough to win the premiership.
A disgruntled Chelski fan called five live up this evening and he sounded so depressed about how bad his boys where, and was very magnanimous towards the Wigan players.
So what with no Cech, maybe no Ashley does anyone think the team built on rubles will stand a chance against Liverpool next week?
There has been a bit of debate on Adebayor and if he meant to stamp on his old buddy or not. The first time I saw it, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But every time I see it again it looks more and more intentional and with malice! and then there's that celebration. He's just a bad egg aint he!
Just hearing the news of the riots coming through, loads of praise for the stewards, but a "large scale riot" is taking place outside and the rozzers have had to call in extra support. I know people said the 80s were making a come back, but now I know it's true!
