Transfer Truth: The Truth on Taider to Liverpool

Posted on Jul 28th, 2013 by James Ellaby

Liverpool have been named as one of the clubs apparently chasing Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider from Bologna, though it appears that Inter might be jumping to the front of the queue.

Taider - Transfer Truth: 15%
The French-born midfielder represented Les Bleus up to Under-20 level before opting to represent the country of his mother's birth (confusingly, his brother plays for Tunisia, where their father is from) earlier this year.

He started out his career with Grenoble before moving to Italy in 2011, and he was briefly co-owned by Juventus though Bologna bought the rights to him back last year.

Taider was a regular in Serie A last season, scoring three goals from central midfield and picking up a red card as he helped the Rossoblu to a safe mid-table position.

He certainly caught the eye though, and has been linked with Bayern Munich, Inter and Liverpool, but coach Stefano Pioli is hoping to keep him another season at least.

Surely Saphir will have a great career, but I want, and I hope, that he can stay with us for another year.

With another two years left on his contract, there's certainly no necessity for Bologna to cash in on him yet, so the situation depends on his ambitions after a breakthrough season.

Our Truth-O-Meter
So far Liverpool have only really been mentioned in passing as a club who are interested in signing him but haven't done anything about it, which makes you wonder if their name was drawn out of a hat.

The 21-year-old could probably do with another good season at Bologna for his development before making the bigger move, but the reports from Sky Italia are that Inter are ready to pounce.

So if Brendan Rodgers really is interested in him, he might have to start firming up his plans, though we're not reading too much into this one.
