Transfer Truth: The Truth on Morata to Liverpool

Posted on Jul 31st, 2013 by James Ellaby

Liverpool are being linked with Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata, but have they got a hope of enticing him away from the Bernabeu as a potential Luis Suarez replacement?

Morata: Transfer Truth: 20%
It's not always easy being a hot young talent at a club like Real Madrid, where Galacticos are signed almost every summer to fill any gaps in the first team, so players like Morata tend to be linked with a move away.

He made his debut for them back in 2010, and has made slow and steady progress since then, with Jose Mourinho reluctant to blood him too quickly, though he scored his first two goals last season.

At international level he's impressed for Spain's various youth teams and won the Golden Boot at the Under-21 European Championships this summer.

This has brought increased attention to his situation at Madrid and the chances of him gaining regular football under Carlo Ancelotti.

With Liverpool almost certainly needing to replace Luis Suarez this summer, he'd certainly get more chances to play first team football at Anfield, while he's also been linked with Man United.

Our Truth-O-Meter
He's got another two years on his contract at Madrid, so there's no urgent need for them to give him a new one, but reports from Spain suggest that they are going to do so to tie him down to a longer deal at a better wage.

As for the player himself, he seems to have made it pretty clear that he's got no intention of giving his up dream of becoming a crucial player for the club.

I'm training well and want to stay in Madrid. The club and coach want me to stay. I do not have to turn down any offers because I have not received any.

None of this offers much hope for Liverpool to try and sign him, so we're assuming that this is just paper talk.
