Transfer Truth: The Truth on Mata or Luiz Leaving

Posted on Jul 19th, 2013 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh

Ever since Mourinho named 6 players thought might be starters at Chelsea over a month ago, rumours have circled like vultures around any of the 30 or so other Chelsea players who were not on that list. Mourinho has now move to clear up what we thought to be true all along.

Luiz/Mata: Transfer Truth: 5%
Juan Mata was undeniably one of the best players in the Premier League last season and he looks set to get even better, so we were stunned when news broke that he didn't fit the new manager's style of play and may be on his way out. When we reported on the chance of Mata moving to Real we were totally sceptical and gave it only a derisory 5% chance for so many very good reasons. It's good to see that Mourinho has now moved to back this up and state that he has no intention to sell.

Although David Luiz has often been criticised for his style of play by English pundits, his performances at the Confederations Cup were exceptional and saw him subsequently linked with Barcelona and a bizarre exchange deal for Wayne Rooney which Mourinho quickly moved to deny.

In his most recent press interview Mourinho has also moved to put to rest, any possibility that either Luiz or Mata will be leaving, when asked about the subject Mourinho simply, but sternly said no way, no way, so it's no way for Jose and we do completely believe him. Certainly on Mata in any case. If a large enough bid came in for Luiz the waters may be tested but as it stands we can't see him abandoning Chelsea or vice versa.

Mourinho has categorically denied that either Mata or Luiz will be sold to anyone, and given the quality and versatility of both players we not only agree with his decision but take it as final. Neither player will be leaving Chelsea this summer unless the miraculous happens so we are giving this one a truth rating of just 5%.

Likeliness Leaving Chelsea: 5%
