Transfer Truth: The Truth on Gameiro to Liverpool

Posted on Jul 19th, 2013 by James Ellaby

French striker Kevin Gameiro has been linked with a move to both Liverpool and Arsenal this summer, but could that be about to come to an end with a Spanish switch?

Transfer Truth: 25%
Gamiero isn't a big name player but has played (and scored) for France as well as mostly holding his own in an increasingly-star-studded Paris Saint Germain squad However, there's just too many new arrivals there for him to keep his place, so he's almost certainly set to move after just two seasons in the French capital.

With both Liverpool and Arsenal likely looking for strikers this summer (Liverpool particularly if Arsenal manage to sign Luis Suarez from them), there's not many potentially-available frontmen who haven't been linked with them.

And so there's no real sign of solid interest from either side in Gameiro, who made his name with Lorient after two prolific seasons, but hasn't quite made the same impact at PSG. At 26, his next move is a big one, but we can't see any real truth in a rumour linking him to England.

The logic for a move is strong though, with Cavani's arrival his chances will be severely limited and he is highly likely to seek a move but until we see solid comments, we're keeping our truth rating on this one relatively low.

Our Truth-O-Meter
Part of our scepticism comes from the fact that today's reports (via TalkSport) claim that Sevilla are likely to try and sign Gameiro as a replacement for Man City new-boy Alvaro Negredo.

They reckon that the French striker has already agreed to the move, albeit without anything solid to back that up either. Of course, this could all just be the work of his agent, trying to stir up interest in a player who is in danger of being forgotten in a cavalcade of striking talent at PSG.

Either way, while he's a pacy and versatile forward with plenty going for him, we're not expecing to see him at Anfield or the Emirates this summer.
