Transfer Truth: The Truth on Cissokho to Liverpool

Posted on Jul 24th, 2013 by James Ellaby

There are reports today that Liverpool are set to sign Valencia full-back Aly Cissokho on loan for the season, but is there any truth in them?

Transfer Truth: 55%
Well, the first thing to note is that there's competition, because Sunderland have already talked to Cissokho's agent, according to The Journal.

They're primarily targeting Gino Peruzzi from Velez Sarsfield, but are apparently keen on Cissokho if that deal falls through.

Of course, the lure of playing for Liverpool would give Brendan Rodgers an edge if it came down to a battle for the French international's signature.

They've been linked with him plenty of times before, while he was at Porto and Lyon, but he's said himself that he is in no rush to leave Valencia.

Every player at the club is being linked with a move because of the financial situation at the club. I have some clubs interested but I am happy here at Valencia.

Regardless, the various sources for this story reckon that the Anfield club would pay an initial loan fee of around £850,000 with an agreement to pay a further £3.5million to buy the player outright next summer.

Our Truth-O-Meter
As we mentioned, Cissokho to Liverpool isn't a new story, but there seems to be some weight to the rumours this time, even without any encouraging-sounding quotes.

A potential stumbling block could be his teeth, which cost him a move to AC Milan a few years ago, because tests in his medical indicated that there could be signs of spinal trouble in his gnashers.

But still, with the very specific numbers being thrown around for the cost of a loan deal, it seems like this might be genuine.
