Transfer Truth: The Truth on Chiriches to Tottenham

Posted on Jul 30th, 2013 by James Ellaby

Most of the transfer talk this summer around White Hart Lane has been about bringing in new attacking players, but Spurs are now being linked with Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches.

Chiriches: Transfer Truth: 40%
The 23-year-old Romanian international centre-half helped Steaua Bucharest win Liga 1 last year in his first full season.

He's known as a very stylish kind of centre-back, like a Romanian Rio Ferdinand, comfortable bringing the ball out of defence rather than hoofing it upfield, which is very much the kind of player who fits in well at White Hart Lane.

He's also got good technique when it comes to the opposite end of the pitch, having scored a couple of eye-catching goals for Steaua, as well as performing impressively in the Champions League last season.

Chiriches has only been there for a year and a half, but is being talked about as a likely departure this summer, with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City amongst the English suitors mentioned.

AC Milan are also reportedly interested in signing him, so if Andre Villas-Boas does want to sign him, he'll have to move fast, with the price-tag said to be around £10m.

Our Truth-O-Meter
The reports from Romania suggest that Spurs are in talks with his agent already, but so far there's no sign that this is anything more than just gossip.

Certainly Chiriches looks like a player who would add a lot to the Spurs back-four, but it seems ilke they will have some serious competition for his signature.

So, given the lack of any confirmation, we're keeping this rumour on the back-burner for now.
