Posted on Jul 26th, 2013 by James Ellaby

While the Suarez saga rumbles on, Brendan Rodgers is still busy trying to bring in fresh talent at Liverpool, but is Christian Atsu one of his targets?

Atsu - Transfer Truth: 50%
The Ghanaian winger, 21, broke into the Porto team last season and helped them to win the Primeira Liga, having made his mark internationally last June when he scored on his debut against Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier.

He's been at Porto for a few years now, spending one season on loan at Rio Ave, and while he's still developing and needs to work on his goal-scoring, he's seen as an exciting prospect.

TalkSPORT say that Liverpool have been trying to sort out a deal for him this summer but haven't been able to convince the Portuguese side to lower their asking price of £6m.

This impasse has opened the door for other Primeira Liga sides like Benfica and Sporting Lisbon to try their luck for a player whose contract runs out next summer and is expected to be on the move.

A source told Sky Sports:

Porto have indicated they would be willing to sell Christian now as he will not sign a new deal. Christian has always said he would like to play in the Premier League and a number of clubs are interested in him.

We try not to read too much in to the words on unnamed sources but the above is a mere indicator that this rumour is gathering pace and could turn in to something more meaningful before too long.

Our Truth-O-Meter
Reports have been typically conflicting over the course of the summer so far, ranging from 'almost a done deal' to 'it's off and Liverpool will look to their youngsters', so it's hard to guess how far any negotiations have actually got.

The persistence of the rumours implies that there's something behind them, so we'll assume Liverpool are at least interested, but if Porto stick to their guns, it seems like they want more for him than the Reds think he's worth.
