Arsenal vs Tottenham - Predictions from 8,000 Players

Posted on Sep 1st, 2013 by Matt Jackson

Tottenham's 2 wins and clean sheets has seen them heavily backed by our 8,000 players to take something from The Emirates when the two sides meet.

Arsenal Analysis
Arsenal have already played 4 games since the season started. With two victories over Fenerbahce and last week's good win over Fulham at Craven Cottage they've now recorded 3 straight victories. They should come in to this game with good confidence and set themselves the target of nothing less than a win.

The issue for Wenger's side is their ever growing list of injuries. With Chamberlain, Arteta, Diaby, and Vermaelen already on the treatment table it now looks like Podolski will be laid off for up to 10 weeks too so they find their squad seriously stretched and will have to rely on Ramsey, Wilshere and Rosicky to perform if they want to get a win from the game. Fortunately all of those players along with Cazorla, Walcott and Giroud have had good starts to the season and will pose a threat to the Tottenham defence.

Tottenham Analysis
Tottenham may have only recored 1-0 victories over Crystal Palace and Swansea but there are signs that they are about to hit their stride.

They have so far averaged 20 shots per game in the Premier League (only Everton have managed more) so they are creating plenty of chances, and if they continue to do that they will start to find themselves scoring more goals. Across those two games they conceded a total of just 7 shots on target which suggests their defence is also very well organised. This combination of factors means that if things click on Sunday they could take all 3 points from The Emirates.

Our Prediction
This fixture has produced some thrilling results over the years and with both teams looking like they're about to hit their full stride there could be fireworks once more, but we're not expecting another 4-4.

Even though Tottenham's stats suggest they have given away less at the back, and have been more capable of creating chances in their two league games so far we think that the home advantage and Arsenal's determination to right the wrongs their crowd experienced on the opening day will be enough to allow them to edge the game. There is also the fact that most of this Tottenham side will be facing their first major test as a team. In their last league game their starting 11 included 5 players who had only shared a competitive game together on one previous occasion and in big games like this, that little extra bit of team chemistry and experience can make all the difference.
