Top 3 Manchester United Players to Have in Your Fantasy Football Team

Posted on Aug 5th, 2013 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh

Barring the obvious RVP, Manchester United players were difficult to include in a top fantasy football team last season, which is why there might be some cracking bargains around this time around.

1. Robin Van Persie
Not having the Dutchman in your side last season was almost a kamikaze move. When many doubted if he could replicate his incredible previous season at Arsenal he actually pushed on with 26 (league) goals and 15 assists giving him an unbeatable goal contributed for every 76 minutes of game time. Just a few minutes per goal off the pace of Lionel Messi's career stats.

Whilst he remains the most expensive player in most fantasy football league games, and you could question whether or not it's possible for him to reproduce the kind of form that made him worth his price for the 3rd season running we think he has at least one more fine season left in him and he is difficult to leave out despite the hefty fee.

2. Patrice Evra
There have been rumours of a move away from Old Trafford for Evra, if Leighton Baines doesn't arrive then Evra remains a fine choice. Despite the premium he carries he is still cheaper than Baines and many of the other top defenders.

Last season he added a new facet to his game bringing in 4 goals to add to his 6 assists. Having had a hand in 10 goals is a tremendous bonus for a defender and when you count all the clean sheets he's likely to get it's clear to see why he was one of the top point scoring defenders last season.

3. Shinji Kagawa
Kagawa looked a quality player at times last season, but without a concrete place in the team his game time was limited by rotation and injury as he settled in to life in the Premier League. He is available at a price way below the league's big hitters but definitely has the quality to find himself amongst them at the end of the season if he is correctly deployed David Moyes. His 6 goals and 4 assists gave him a goal contributed for every 131 minutes of game time. Not a bad achievement by any means but one that we believe he can improve on enough to make him great value.

Potential Bargain: Ashley Young
The United side is full of potential fantasy football gems this season. Ashley Young had a torrid 2021/13 failing to score a single league goal when he should realistically have been looking at double figures for both goals and assists. He has an abundance of quality and you would expect to see him return to his best this season as he jostles for a place in the England World Cup squad.

Tom Cleverly and Wilfred Zaha are also worth a look. Both players appear in the bargain basement category of most fantasy football games and whilst neither is guaranteed game time there is a good chance that one can establish themselves in to the first team with a good run of form and make their current price look teeny.
