Top 3 Arsenal Players to Have in Your Fantasy Football Team

Posted on Aug 1st, 2013 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh

If you haven't already sorted out your fantasy football team then now is the time you'll probably be thinking about your star selections. We've analysed the Arsenal team for you and made our top 3 must have players if you want Arsenal coverage in your team.

1. Theo Walcott
With all the hype surrounding the arrival of a new big name striker at The Emirates, Walcott must be just about the only top player to have avoided the headlines. His league contribution of 14 goals and 13 assists last season was incredible and gave him a goal contributed for every 89 minutes of game time. Even though the arrival of a striker is likely to limit Walcott's game time up front, the fact that he is still improving in all areas of his game and valued at below the fees commanded by the likes of Bale, Mata, Cazorla and Hazard in many fantasy football games makes him a very attractive option especially if his game time isn't limited by injury.

2. Santi Cazorla
Cazorla's debut season produced a stunning 12 goals and 13 assists which made him one of the top 3 scoring midfielders in many fantasy games last season. Even though multiple seasons without a proper break meant he looked tired toward the end we expect him to come back refreshed and revitalised for the new season. Cazorla's 96 key passes in 2012/13 could only be bettered by 2 players (Baines and Silva) and if Arsenal are successful in securing the services of a striker with more clinical finishing than Giroud, we do believe Cazirla will produce even more next season.

3. Per Mertesacker
Arsenal are often unfairly though of as a team who have little in the way of defensive strengths, but only Liverpool and Manchester City kept more clean sheets than Wenger's side last season. With just 37 goals conceded Arsenal in fact had the 2nd tightest defence in the league and the towering German was present for all of their clean sheets.

Even though Mertesacker was at fault for one too many Arsenal goals last season he managed to established himself as a first team player, and if he continues to settle in to the English game he could score top fantasy points again. He also offers a goal threat from set pieces and could improve on his tally of 3 from last term. Being available at a far lower fee than Baines, Evra and Ivanovic who outscored him last season he could be a cracking bargain signing for your side.

Potential Bargain: Jack Wilshere
Having spent most of last season injured, the maestro is available at a knock down fee in most fantasy football games. Whilst he does lack the goals and assists that are coveted in many games he is likely to get far more game time this term and with most fantasy games now gearing towards counting key passes and defensive contributions toward their points scoring systems you'd be hard pushed to find a world class midfielder who is guaranteed a starting position at a top 4 club (when fit) at the kind of fee Wilshere is available at.
