Rumour Of The Day: Soldado To Liverpool

Posted on Jul 22nd, 2013 by James Ellaby

The transfer market at the moment seems to be full of potential moves that are probably reliant on other deals either going through or not. A new one of those is that Liverpool could sign Roberto Soldado if they sell Luis Suarez.

The Spanish striker has been on Tottenham Hotspur's wishlist all summer, and they have apparently made a couple of bids for him, to no avail so far.

He's quietly gone about becoming one of Europe's top strikers in recent seasons and is believed to be ready to move on if the offer is right. He's due to meet Valencia president Amadeo Salvo this week.

The Daily Star reckon that Liverpool have turned their attentions to him as a possible Suarez replacement and could be willing to bid £22m, higher than either of the offers from White Hart Lane.

The Star say that Valencia have given potential suitors until August 3rd to trigger his release clause (now believed to be around £30m) otherwise he won't be going anywhere.

They've previously insisted that they have no urgent need to sell anyone, despite their perilous financial situation over the last few years, but sporting director Braulio Ortiz has admitted that they need to be pragmatic.

We are sounding out the market because it's necessary to have a 'Plan B' in this situation.

For Spurs, having already failed to sign both Christian Benteke and David Villa, their pursuit of Soldado has to be a priority, but can Liverpool sneak in and whisk him away?

Given the dubious source and the hefty dollop of applied logic we're not massively convinced by this one, but as more and more sources pick it up it;s gathering pace so we're going to give it a "long shot" but no completely fictitious rating.
