Rumour Of The Day: Remy to Newcastle

Posted on Aug 1st, 2013 by James Ellaby

It's not been an easy summer for Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew, with the Papiss Cisse shirt row and the arrival of Joe Kinnear, while the transfer market has proved tricky.

The Magpies have been linked with the likes of Darren Bent and Bafetimbi Gomis, but have made little progress in signing either so far, so could they be turning to Loic Remy again?

The French striker of course had been meant to join Newcastle in January, only to ditch them at the last minute and join QPR, who he was unable to save from relegation.

With Harry Redknapp looking to lighten the wage bill in the Championship, Remy is one of the stars who he needs to lose, and a loan deal could suit both clubs.

Certainly they need to bring someone in to allay the fears of Magpies fans that they will get left behind again this summer, and Pardew has insisted that something will happen soon with one of his targets.

They are all very much on the radar. We will pursue them until we get them. I'm not concerned about any of them slipping away. I think that we are in the market still. We will pay what we think is the right price. We've done that ever since we have been here. We have always managed to get somebody over the line and I think we will this time.

Kinnear's negotiation skills have so far seen him underwhelm both Lyon and Aston Villa, with Bent seemingly now set to sign for Fulham despite a meeting with the Newcastle Director Of Football.

Lyon have rejected his £7m bid for Gomis so far, and there are conflicting reports today suggesting that the deal is either dead in the water or about to suddenly go through.

So the only likely option seems to be a loan move for Remy, who scored six goals in 13 appearances in the Premier League last season.
