Rumour Of The Day: Pastore to Tottenham Hotspur

Posted on Jul 29th, 2013 by James Ellaby

You may or may not have noticed that Real Madrid are trying to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur. If that deal does go through, will Spurs be moving for Argentinean midfielder Javier Pastore?

That's what the Daily Star reckon, saying that the Paris Saint-Germain star will be their top target if they lose Bale this summer.

Pastore moved to PSG in 2011 after making a name for himself under Delio Rossi at Palermo in Serie A and has been a regular in the two seasons since, though had a quieter time last season and has dropped out the national squad.

With PSG coming into money after his arrival, competition for his place will always be intense, so while his contract isn't up until 2016, it's reported that they are ready to move him on.

He cost them over £30m two years ago, but the Daily Star reckon that they would settle for less now. However, his agent, while playing down a move to Roma, has insisted that he's not for sale.

Pastore to Rome? Impossible because PSG have never made him available for sale.

For Spurs, depending on which players Madrid throw at them to tempt them into selling Bale, Pastore's ability to play attacking midfield either centrally or on the flanks, combined with a decent scoring record, would make him an attractive option.

Whether they would be able to convince PSG to make him available for sale will presumably depend on what they can offer, but for Pastore, the chance for a fresh start might be appealing.
