Rumour Of The Day: Lopez to Tottenham Hotspur

Posted on Jul 24th, 2013 by James Ellaby

With their bids for Roberto Soldado so far getting them nowhere and Liverpool also sniffing around him, have Tottenham Hotspur gone back in for Lisandro Lopez?

The Argentine forward (capable of playing up front or on the wings) was the subject of a deadline day bid in January but that failed. With his Wikipedia page already claiming that he now plays for Spurs, they seem to be back in the chase.

It's a sensible back-up option at the very least, with the Soldado deal likely to be made or broken very shortly, Lisandro is a consistent performer with tons of experience at the highest levels.

He made his name at Porto, getting goals a-plenty in the Champions League and Europa League before moving to Lyon in 2009, and he's kept up those standards there, averaging around 15 league goals a season.

However, his contract is up next summer and he's apparently told the French side that he wants to move on before then. He's been linked with a return to South America with his first club Racing interested, but he'd surely fancy a go in the Premier League before heading home.

At 30 years old he's still in his prime and would represent a strong addition to the Spurs squad, particularly with his flexibility, even after the signing of Nacer Chadli.

His contract situation and determination to leave mean that he may well be a target even if Andre Villas-Boas manages to get Soldado, as Lisandro wouldn't come with a hefty price tag so we're giving this rumour a good chance of being true, even if Lopez is only considered a back up to the Soldado deal.
