Predictions from 8,000 Players on: Villa v Liverpool

Posted on Aug 24th, 2013 by Jim Walker

46% of our users are backing Liverpool to follow up their opening day win over Stoke with another win at Villa Park in Saturday's late kick off, with there also being heavy backing for the draw.

Villa started their season with a shock but deserved win against a sorry Arsenal side at The Emirates. Whilst they were aided by a dubious penalty and red card, you can't take too much away from them, they were worthy of their win.

They then followed up with an even better performance at Stamford Bridge where they were again arguably the better side, created twice as many chances as Mourinho's team and were in the end unlucky to concede a goal to Ivanovic who shouldn't have been on the pitch, and then again unlucky not to grab an equaliser late on.

Villa look a very useful side and can produce excellent performances against the big sides so they have a better chance of victory than they are being given, and a draw is certainly not beyond them.

Liverpool were slick, sharp and dangerous against Stoke last week. With the volume of chances they created they should have expected more goals, which the partnership between Aspas, Coutinho and Sturridge will certainly bring in future games. Liverpool will be a massive attacking threat in this game especially against Villa's relatively inexperienced side but Lambert's boys have shown over the past two games that they can handle the kind of quality players Liverpool have.

There were some signs that Toure and Agger may take a few games to get used to one another and a striker like Benteke could expose any immaturity in a relationship between two excellent individual players where the likes of Walters and Crouch may have failed.

Our Prediction
Liverpool may have looked irresistible last week but Villa have shown that their young side have matured and can pose a threat to anyone whilst keeping even blisteringly talented attacks at bay. The confidence of both sides will be deservedly high but we think Villa are going to be a much better side this term then they were last time around. The pace and power of their attack should have enough to cause far more problems for Liverpool than Stoke did last week and we think it will be enough to allow them to get a score draw from the game against a Liverpool team who also look tasty when going forward.
