Liverpool Will End Their Woeful 1st Match of The Season Record

Posted on Aug 16th, 2013 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh

Of all the top sides in the Premier League Liverpool currently have the most woeful opening day record by some distance. With new optimism once again rearing it's head on the Mersey, surely their diabolical run will end at Anfield this time out.

Dodgy Starts
Tottenham, Arsenal, Sunderland and most recently West Brom in last season's shocking 3-0 opening day defeat, can count themselves as the teams that have left Liverpool without an opening day win in 5 seasons.

Just 3 opening day wins from their last 11 attempts is a pretty diabolical record and you'd have to go back a full 16 seasons to find an opening day fixture in which Liverpool scored more than 2 goals.

The table makes pretty horrific reading in every regard, so we'll spare Liverpool supporters torture by analysing it in too much depth and instead focus on what has to be a positive start this coming season.

Rodgers Promise
Brendan Rogers has been very busy in the transfer window. Even though Liverpool have lost the services of Luis Suarez, at least for the first 6 games, they have added plenty of quality around the park. With the likes of Coutinho, Sturridge, Aspas and others now bolstering their ranks a home fixture against poor travellers Stoke should be exactly what the doctor ordered and anything less than a confident victory will might set off the here we go again of too many past disappointments.

The eyes of the world will be on Anfield come 12.45pm on Saturday as Liverpool start the season alone in the early kick off and we expect that Liverpool will come out on top, though it might not be all that pretty.
