How Good Is: Arsenal Target Mesut Ozil

Posted on Sep 2nd, 2013 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of confirming the signing of German international Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Everyone knows the calibre of the player but how does he stack up against the very best in the world.

Ozil: World Top 20 Midfielder
There is no doubt that Ozil is an astonishing talent and an ingenious master of assists. A fee of £40m+ is obviously inflated by the scramble of transfer deadline day but he may well be worth the money in today's market, especially given the huge experience and level of accomplishment he has achieved at the age of 24.

Mesut Ozil's goal contribution ranks up there with the world's finest strikers, let alone midfielders. At 119 minutes per goal contributed he is a deadly creative player with few in the world able to match his stats when it comes to the business of creating and scoring goals. He's miles ahead of 160 minutes per goal contributed figured achieved by Santi Cazorla last season and has better figures than Walcott's career total of a goal contributed every 142 minutes per goal made or scored over his career.

Ozil has really risen to prominence as he has reached maturity over the last few years, and if you compare his figures for last season things get even better with a goal contributed for every 96 minutes of game time in 60 appearances in 2012/13. To put that in to perspective Gareth Bale had an identical figure over the same period last season.

As a Real Madrid player it's no surprise that Ozil has vast experience at the very top level even though he is still just 24 years old.

He has made 40 appearances in the Champions League making 20 assists and scoring 4 goals to give him a goal contributed for every 130 minutes of game time at Champions League level, a tally any attacking player would be proud of at that level, and one which can't be bettered by many creative midfield men.

He is also a regular for the German national team. A good showing at the 2010 World Cup brought him 1 goal and 3 assists at the age of 20, and since then he has grown stronger having notched up 47 caps, scoring 14 times at international level.

Our Rating
There is no dobut what so ever that Ozil is a world class player who has been consistently getting better every season, and still has room to improve even further than his exceptional current level.

He as proven himself on every stage and is an experienced Champions League and international level performer even at the age of 24. There are few gems like this on the world stage and even though his price is inflated by the drama of deadline day there is no doubt he could prove to be worth any premium over the next few years so we have no issue placing him in the lofty position of world top 20 midfielder.
