Everton vs. Tottenham - Preview and Prediction
Posted on Dec 7th, 2012 by Araz Heydariyehzadeh
Everton and Spurs are currently separated by just 3 points in the Premier league table, in contention for the Champions League spots. This season has seen both teams achieve above expectations but just 31% of our pundits think Everton will win at Goodison Park when the teams meet this week.
Everton have now won just 1 game in their last 9 league outings and have sustained their position at the top end of the table through a succession of draws. 6 of those last 9 games have been drawn and the Toffees have often found themselves on the end of bad luck or bad refereeing that has prevented them having an even higher haul of points.
After their 3-0 win at Fulham last week Spurs are now on a run of 3 straight wins in the league. AVB's team are in good form and even though Gareth Bale might be missing they have plenty of depth in their squad so it might not be as big a problem as it should be.
Attack vs. Defence
Everton have been decent at the back this season, only 2 visitors to Goodison have managed to breach them more than once and no team has scored more than 2 past them all season. The issue for them has been just 2 clean sheets and none in the last 10 games, it seems their defence is solid but may have one or two errors in it which a high scoring team like Spurs should be able to breach on at least one occasion.
Spurs defence has been very similar to Everton's in terms of performance, they have conceded relatively few chances but just 2 clean sheets all season suggest there is at least one catastrophic error lurking in the background at all times. Whilst Everton have not been prolific in front of goal, their return of 12 goals from 7 home games is pretty average and right now points at the kind of team who always score one, but rarely ever more than that.
Everton have more draws than anyone else in the league with 8 and having drawn 6 of their last 9 fixtures this could be a very likely outcome again as we see two equally balanced teams go head to head at Goodison. Both have defences who don't concede many but always seem to leak one, and they also share the trait of having good attacks who rarely fail to score so we're going for a score draw.
