Arsenal's Player of the Week

Posted on Aug 22nd, 2013 by Matt Styrka

The Gunners made a torrid start to the Premier League season but bounced back with a good win in the midweek Champions League qualifier. Despite the mixed fortunes one or two players have shown great promise to raise the spirits of Arsenal supporters.

Jack Wilshere
Wilshere's 86 passes against Villa was the 6th highest tally in the league and he did in style with a 92% passing accuracy which can only be bettered by Yaya Toure and Ramirez in the opening weekend where he, Giroud and Ramsey were the rare bright sparks in an otherwise poor Arsenal performance.

Wilshere followed this up with similarly accurate passing in the Champions League game where he also proved a constant threat to Arsenal's Turkish opposition. His 8 dribbles, 3 key passes and 3 turn overs of possession were all the best of any player for each stat in that game. He also provided an assist for one of the goals.

His mazy runs and command in the Arsenal midfield means he gets our nod just ahead of Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud. If the England man can stay off the injury table he is in line to showcase his talents repeatedly this season.
